The Guitar Teacher

Randy Rutherford’s latest fringe offering contains the funniest sex scene you can ever see in a one-man show.

The Guitar Teacher is another not-to-be-missed production from the San Franciscan. This time he tells the tale of moving to Alaska to work on the pipeline but instead meeting a pretentious guitar teacher who recognizes the narrator’s musical talent.

Rutherford’s singing and guitar playing flow throughout the story. The whole package is impressive enough without realizing that Rutherford suffered profound hearing loss that cut short his folk-singing career.

The venue’s lighting was troubling Rutherford at an early performance, as were non-stop police sirens, but with his comfortable style, he incorporated those surprises into the story as easily as he slides from music to talk and back again.
